After rumors and more rumors, here are the first real images and information about Nokia 9, the first top of the range of the reborn Finnish brand. FrAndroid‘s colleagues have in fact been able to try out for a few minutes with a skilfully masked prototype that left some details of the new flagship.

The smartphone appears wrapped in a dummy box in blue color, leaving only a glimpse of the alummium body, which seems to be of good quality. On the front there is an elongated button for the fingerprint sensor, alongside two touch buttons, already seen on Nokia 5 and Nokia 6.

On the back is the camera compartment, which confirms the presence of the dual camera, while on the side parts we find the power button, the volume button and the various ports, including the 3.5 mm audio jack and one USB Type-C input.

With regard to the technical features, Nokia 9 is exactly what we expected: the top of the range. The display has 5.27 inches and WQHD resolution (1440 x 2560 pixels) that looks good in quality, the MSM8998 processor is nothing but the powerful Snapdragon 835, and there are 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal memory.

There is probably also a 6 GB of RAM variant, but for now there are no official confirmations. It also has Quick Charge 3.0 technology, but battery capacity remains uncertain.

The OS version on the tested device is Android 7.1.1 Nougat, with an almost stocked interface, very close to Pixel. The few customizations introduced by the manufacturer concern small aesthetic changes and the presence of the Always on Display function.

There are two sensors on the back of 13 megapixels, one black and white and one with color, but the quality of the shots can not be up to the current top of the ranges in the market. However, the problem may still be related to a still uneven version of the software so you will have to wait for the final version to make a correct judgment.

The new Nokia smartphone was also revealed in a 360º video released by the company’s photographer on Vimeo. The video, maybe accidentally posted, was immediately intercepted and uploaded to the Internet. So the new top range of Nokia seems to encircle the best of what can be desired for a 2017 mobile device, but we will have to wait for the official presentation and the price list to see if it will really be as interesting as it seems.

Further confirmations come from Geekbench, which has intercepted some Nokia branded smartphones, although no commercial name is indicated for each of them. There are three models found in the database, one with Snapdragon 835, probably this one we just talked about, one with Snapdragon 626 or 630 and one with Snapdragon 660. Let’s not forget that the device seen in this first test is still a prototype, and there are ample improvement margins before the launch.
