New update for Telegram and WhatsApp

Both IM apps, Telegram and WhatsApp, have received some new features that add some new interesting possibilities. Despite winning many users initially, Telegram is still far from having the users of WhatsApp, which currently continues to stand alone user rankings.

WhatsApp update will arrive to our phones these days to bring the ability to write notes when sending photos or videos. So far, if we wanted to send a picture and comment about it, we had to send two messages, one with the text and one with the photo. With this update, WhatsApp allows you to add a comment on the photo, so the text and the image arrive in the same message. And it also works for the video files. The new version 2.11.399 also enables the possibility of including a comment on the videos we send via this app.

On the other hand, Telegram goes his own way. One of the main advantages of this app is the ability to use it on multiple devices at once, and it’s completely multiplatform (it works fine on mobile, tablets and PC, although the PC versions are not official yet). This instant messaging app has also just received an interesting update, in this case focused on tablets.

The new 1.9.1 version includes full support for any tablet with Android 4.0 or higher. That means that the design fits the bigger screen, showing an interface with multiple columns, taking better advantage of the extra space offered by tablets. The update also includes several changes in the multimedia section, adding an option to compress videos (which requires Android 4.1), a new video editor and a dedicated folder for the media files we receive.

Telegram remains completely free, and its creator expressed his intention to continue this way. It is a very handy app if you use multiple devices, and even the PC versions that are not official, work quite well. Telegram had a major growth when it appeared; thanks in part to the fact that at that time WhatsApp was facing some problems. Due to the amount of new users registration, Telegram services even saturated for a few hours.

If you have not tried it yet, is an interesting alternative for your IM. It is completely free and lightweight, so it’s worth giving it a try.
